Following prolonged and consistent legal work, on 10 August 2026, the Criminal Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan issued an acquittal in the criminal case against our client, who had been charged with evading military service.
Our client was represented throughout the entire trial by Attorney-at-Law Arnold Vardanyan.
In the course of the proceedings, the defence presented legal arguments and professional and expert evidence challenging both the prosecution’s allegations and the reliability and evidentiary value of the materials underlying the charges. The defence also relied on relevant international standards in support of its position.
As part of the extrajudicial measures undertaken in connection with the case, following an application submitted by Attorney-at-Law Arnold Vardanyan, the National Body for Standards and Metrology of Armenia brought into force, as a national standard in Armenia, the international ISO technical requirements applicable to ophthalmic refractometers.
The case also raised a number of significant legal and evidentiary issues. Among them was the question of the competence of forensic medical experts to assess an individual’s visual acuity indicators. This issue was challenged by the defence, including during the cross-examination of the forensic medical experts.
We thank our client for their trust.
